Truman Capote, a gifted writer had already achieved a good deal of fame as the author of Breakfast at Tiffany’s. He was ensconced among the New York celebrity literati. Late in 1959 he read a newspaper account of the murder of a family in a small Kansas town. The book he ended up writing about that murder, In Cold Blood, would change the way people looked at nonfiction. It would also change Capote’s life. He would never finish another novel.
