STUDIO SYNOPSIS:
Artisan Entertainment's Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2 delves deeper into the legend of the infamous Blair Witch and the unspeakable evil wrought in the Black Hills near Burkittsville, Maryland.

Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2 takes place in present-day Burkittsville, after the events chronicled in The Blair Witch Project. Four young people have signed up for a tour of the Black Hills, the latest Blair Witch-inspired moneymaker dreamed up by Jeff Patterson, a black sheep townie with a murky past. They set up camp near the foundation of the house that belonged to Rustin Parr, the old hermit who was hanged for the murders of seven children, a crime that bore the mark of the Blair Witch. In the morning, the campers awake with no memory of having gone to sleep and five hours stolen from their lives. They return to Jeff's residence, an abandoned 19th Century warehouse at the edge of Burkittsville, to try to piece together what happened.

But the strange occurrences haven't ended with that night, as legend and reality become frighteningly entwined. Bizarre symbols appear on their bodies, children's plaintive crying is heard, phantasmagoric visions confound their eyes, and fleeting apparitions suggest the villainy of the distant past. In the woods, a grisly discovery at Coffin Rock recalls a deadly chapter in the history of the Blair Witch. No longer sure what is real and what is imagined, the five young people start to unravel psychologically, eyeing one another with suspicion and edging ever closer to mass hysteria. Too late, they realize that when they left the woods, they didn't leave alone...

NONE HAVE AN ACTIVE BELIEF IN GOD. This was true of the first Blair Witch film, too. No one is/was portrayed as having any apparent active belief in God. And as trouble comes, praying for Divine help is/was not even considered. This is both a true and false reflection of our culture. It is false because, when the Littleton crisis hit the High Schoolers there prayed and filled the churches. It is also true reflection, because we are becoming an increasingly secular culture.

THIS IS ERIKA
She is a Wiccan (wise ones) -a "good witch". She says, "I don't believe in Evil, I believe in nature." Her father is a pastor and her parents have rejected her because of her Wiccan beliefs. This is a reflection of the relationship between certain Christians and Wiccans.

Editorial note: In the Christian community there is a lot of hateful talk directed against the Wiccans. 20 years ago certain Evangelical Christians began to bash the Gay community. Today there is little, if any, relationship between the two groups. The same thing is now happening to the Wiccans. Some mean spirited Christians are bashing them. (Listen to what these kinds of Christians are saying about the Harry Potter book series, for example). This public bashing of the Wiccans and Gays is wrong. And, it needs to stop immediately. The days of the witch hunts are over. God is love, not hate. "For God so loved the world that he gave..." -John 3:16

i have found some secrets like the bricks in the stream outside Jeff's house look like a cross in the water. Yes the rug says "or" when Erika is meditating. The door has a face on it when Stephen opens it. The grave name changes from "TREACLE" to say "FURTHER". The window says "NO" very clearly. And many others. I watched the movie once reagular and once in rewind and fast forward to find these. Its not really that hard. I have some that I read on this website that I am going to try tonight. I will let you know what else I find.

Heres a fun one for ya'. If you rearrange the letters of "Treacle Me", both words shown/hidden in the movie. You get "Erect Male", and as you may notice, the scenes in which "Treacle" and "Me" are shown are both when showing the women of the movie laying down. Good stuff, isn't it?

Just some info for your page. Next to the door of the hounds, you will see numerous license plates. Three license plates say BF.20.58. Two plates say BF.20.59. Go to chapter 20, one hour, four minutes, and 59 seconds. There, freeze frame. To the left of Kim's head, you will see a very clear image of the Blair witch watching over them. "Investigating them".

In addition, if you go to 20 minutes and 58 seconds, the camera cuts and then starts again. Use the frame by frame on a DVD player to see the hidden frame. The secrets are all far from found. There is a long way to go.

i have found alot of hidden things in the blair witch 2 here is what i have found so far... on the van door in the camoflouge there is a black hand thing reaching upwards, in the hospital were kim is sitting, there is a flying witch faintly on the door near the bottom. there is a face on erika's door when stephen goes to summon her. face in the door at jeff's house in the long corridor where all his " stolen stuff is." "me " near erika in woods. 3 ghostly figures in the background of kim in woods when she is talking.. they look like heather, josh, and mike from the first one ( you can make out heathers hat and hair.. then 2 boys standing next to her) 3 bodies scattered in the woods on the way to jeffs house. stick figure in background of the fridge when erika goes to see about coffee. "g" in window ."no in window" handy man's tools are arranged in stick mans postion (when kim goes to gets beer) tools outside of store have blood on them. "S" on van after kim wrecks. two manaquin heads are in the t.v. storage at one point in tristen's rm now 3 look like heather, josh, and mike. 3 heads in erika's t.v. storage too. stick figure on window. blood on brick wall when tristen is freaking out. face in smoke at campsite. cross at cemetary disappears. sheriffs face is a skull in the mirror. stick person in the water in tristens dream. that is all i have fund so far.. but i am still looking for alot more..

Watching through the book of shadows i have found the 5 secrets of Esrever while most of you seem to be mixed up with the hidden words alot have found. These are all clearly visions. Rug : When stephen leaves tristans room and reenters the rug has disappeared. Water : When tristan has the vision in the water a stick-figure floats into the screen from the right. Grave : When the group are leaving the cemetary a grave on the left of the screen casts an impossible shadow of a stick-figure which quickly dissappears. Mirror : When Josh is being cross-examined at the police station when the sherif crosses the mirror a false reflection of an old man is reflected. Door : When the sherif is watching the video of josh hiding erica,s body in the closet look very closely at the door on the left, in 5 of the small pains of glass in a sideways U shape are the faces of the 5 tourist victims who were disembowled by the group. (I may be the very first to find this :D ) Also on a different note when tristan looks out the window to see the owl in the screen before hand when you can see the hole window look closly and you can clearly see a vision of the witch standing looking in at her. Here is something that some people may have not figured out in the movie. In the scene near the end right before they play their tape in reverse, when Tristen seems to go crazy, (and mentions something about Winnershin or something) she says a sentence in reverse. It sounds like: "erf klaw niaga lee nerdlick ate." It is actually spelled "eerf klaw niaga nerdlich eht." So, she is saying "The children will again walk free." Tell me what you guys think it means or what you think about the sentance!

My wife posted her Esrever page a couple of months ago which contains the secrets. We recently found that if you go to BlairWitch.com, click "search" and type in some of the words "hidden" in the movie "Seek me no further or" you get to enter your name on a list of people that have found the secret. If you enter other words in the search feature such as "bring something back" I believe you get an extra scene for the movie and a screensaver. I don't exactly recall since it's been so long since we found this out. Hope this helps!

ok check this out.......in the room where the cop guy is interviewing one of the guys in the movie, there is a Mirror in the background, not really a mirror, but one of the glass things that you can see into, but not out out..anyways, watch the movie through to this part, and watch the mirror when the cop walks by it!!! it aint him, but instead a older man, and watch how the reflection is.instead of showing the back of his head like it should show, it show him looking DIRECTLY at the camera!!

another one is when the girl that is supposely possed by the witch is lookin outside a window, and the camera focuses on what she is looking at....the owl. well, look at the blurred part to the left of her before it focuses outside, and you will see the blair witch's face outlined DIRECTLY where the owl is.

another one..in the graveyard, when everyone is leaving....look at the tombstone in the center, it has a shadow, and its shadow also has the shadow of the witch's stick, and as soon as all the members of the team walk over it, it has dissapeared.

also, if you have a dvd or a VCR with a slow button....watch the part where they are smoking the joints, and watch where it shows one of them blowing out smoke....SLOW right here, and you will see a face in the smoke, its not very distinctive, but a face none the less, and it is only for a second.

i know of about 2-3 more, but i am tired of writing, so i will write more later if i remember!

Towards the end of the movie, when one of the guys shuts the door. The light that reflects on the door distinctly forms the shape of a face. The mirror is when one of the males is being interrogated by the police officer, as the officer passes by the mirror, his reflection appears to be following him. However, he is facing away from the mirror and on his reflection, his face looks like a ghost and is facing the camera as well. Hope that helps.

Lauren-- The secret of esrever (reverse backwards--get it?) is where to find the stuff. The Further on the grave is is right, but your others aren't. We found that in the scene where Tristen imagines killing the baby, there's a shadow of the stick-doll that floats over the water. And when Steven leaves the room after telling Tristen that they'll leave adn she says no, a rug is visible from outside the room where there is no rug inside the room. We didn't find the mirror or the door yet, so if you find out, let us know.

Hello, I read your review of the Blair Witch movies. I have not personally seen either of them, but I still would like to make some observations:

1. I believe that going on the assumption that there is a Supreme Being who cares about mortals; this Being has tried to make itself known to everyone across this planet through various stories, allegories, religions, and certain people. Each religion may think it has the exclusive on "God" but I'm always compelled to question that assumption.

2. The characters that are described in both movies seem to despise the notion of a caring God and therefore in theory have cut themselves off from any possible rescue. *In all fairness to the God-idea one could point out that God been associated with Wisdom. If even one of those characters had a supply of Wisdom they would have chosen not to go on this ominous adventure. Of course that could possibly lead to a more positive conclusion to the story.

3. I'm biased in that I'm sick and tired of being sick and tired of movies that give Evil the victory time and time again. As a person who was a child in the sixties and seventies the movies portrayed supernatural evil and psychological evil as invincible. I've always resented that. The exception to the rule were some of the Hammer films where Dr. Van Helsing defeated Dracula (the Devil) or in the sword and sandal genre where Hercules or some other strongman hero gave Evil a swift kick in to oblivion. The attitude seemed to change around the late seventies and eighties where the attitude seemed to be fight back against Evil and give it what for. In the battle of Good against Evil; Good is not here to be "nice". Good has razor sharp tricks too to send Evil packing.

4. Having never seen these Blair type movies but reading the review I get the impression that these people were already on the path of destruction and the outcome was logical.

5. *Sometimes those of us who have religious or spiritual beliefs have to be more honest to ourselves and others and admit Evil is not always defeated with prayer alone. Prayer is one part, wisdom is another, getting allies is another, exposing evil using the truth is another, in immediate life threatening situations physical self-defense is another appropriate response to evil, prevention/protection is another means, common sense is another way of defeating evil etc.

*I don't think a Supreme Being who cares about humans limits itself to fighting Evil with only one method when there are many. I don't think such a Being by whatever name would want us to be prey to Evil when it has given us the intelligence and courage to defeat Evil.

**The characters in these movies were ill-equipped physically, mentally, and spiritually to control themselves and confront evil. Honestly I have to admit to myself that even on a less intense level we as humans find ourselves poorly equipped to deal with evil because we'd prefer to deny its existence.

6. I'm not sure if I could watch these movies WITHOUT FEELING QUITE DEPRESSED BUT I THINK THEY HAVE VALUE AS A WARNING!! Sam

Hey Man Love the site. As always your insights are very informative and enlightening.

But One question.

I find it logical but for me hard to believe the evil came from the main charcters to kill in my personal opinion. You're claiming the message of the movie is that real evil comes from inside us, no paranormal deeds need compete with our evilness.

I have to disagree with you I have two interpretations of this fascinating movie. The first has to do with the unseen evil we cannot see with our level of perception, there are unknown evils (even goodness) that we cannot see. The movie was, like the first movie, communicating and exemplifying this idea about unseen evils and the effect evil can have on people. Especially those people who try and make fun of it and don't treat it with respect. Like the hap-hazard fashion the characters went into those woods. I have had by own experience with evil spirits and it's not something I would recommend anyone to make fun of. God through his great countanence on me however and saved me.

Another Interpretation of this movie has to do with the power of the media and the effects it has on people, especially the young and naive. Like Joe Berlingers previous documentries (Paradise Lost for example is essential viewing for everyone) he uses the motion picture medium to communicate the fears and concerns he has about the way death, suffering and horror is represented in the press. As if it's some sort of fun circus. As the credits begin to roll we see a beautiful shot of the woods. And even after these grusome and horrific murders have taken place people are still playing about. The press just makes the horror more intriqing, interesting and exciting. Not the way it should be.

No town in the U.S. can de-evolve on curses alone. You need a curser, to start curses. Not someone a whole town like Blair(Burkittesville) would be scared enough to leave ,because of someone who was thought to have cursed it. Curses of the land must be seperated with the curses of humans. Otherwise no one knows earthly from human to determine such a "wish" for de-evolvement of either until it is officially proclaimed to be more than one person at work behind the curse. If it was determined, there would be more to worry about than just one woman.It may never be a witch at work if a true witch cannot join any cult unless the importance of overtaking the town is involved where not witchcraft is practiced - but anything non-religiously connected to the overtaking so it is only false prophesy at work on those vulnerable enough to believe it without knowing how to protect themselves any different from Elle Kediward (- Yes on the immagrants list of the Reliant it is Kediward or Kedeward - an undotted i or an e looking like one).She may have had the same intention to leave the town just as much, if only she knew like the accusers that it was false prophesy - she would have left ahead of time before everyone else blamed her for the undetermined curse/false prophesy hybrid. A hybrid indistinguishable to any religious person ever known to pull of curses on a whole town of people. NO witch nor towns person could know. Now all there is - is reincarnating someone whom didn't die to someone ( the cult's ) liking, nor the townspeoples way of seeing fit the justice in a wrongful determination between curse and false prophetic indistinguishability...no human nor land escapes as long as no one can tell it was meant for the land and the people put together. - I will return to comment only by populair demand if there is any............Peter Flack............
