STORIES ARE ABOUT RELATIONSHIP

SPIRITUAL THEMES

Click to enlargeThere are lessons here that all people of faith can learn from. The importance of being true to your word and doing what you say you will do is honored in many cultures. There is something that is appreciated about a person who is there for you when no one else is, but this kind of loyalty seems rare in people of every religion.

ON LOYALTY AND RESPECT

An ounce of loyalty is worth a pound of cleverness.
--Elbert Hubbard (1856 - 1915)

Loyalty to petrified opinion never yet broke a chain or freed a human soul.
--Mark Twain (1835 - 1910), inscription beneath his bust in the Hall of Fame

The greater the loyalty of a group toward the group, the greater is the motivation among the members to achieve the goals of the group, and the greater the probability that the group will achieve its goals.
--Rensis Likert

I have too much respect for the idea of God to make it responsible for such an absurd world.
--Georges Duhamel (1884 - 1966)

Someday I want to be rich. Some people get so rich they lose all respect for humanity. That's how rich I want to be.
--Rita Rudner

Be peaceful, be courteous, obey the law, respect everyone; but if someone puts his hand on you, send him to the cemetery.
--Malcolm X (1925 - 1965), Malcolm X Speaks, 1965

I owe my success to having listened respectfully to the very best advice, and then going away and doing the exact opposite.
--G. K. Chesterton (1874 - 1936)

ON RESPECT

Leviticus 19:32 (Message Bible)
"Show respect to the aged; honor the presence of an elder; fear your God. I am God.

Proverbs 25:6 (Message Bible)
Don't work yourself into the spotlight;
don't push your way into the place of prominence.

Luke 14:10 (Message Bible)
"When you're invited to dinner, go and sit at the last place. Then when the host comes he may very well say, 'Friend, come up to the front.' That will give the dinner guests something to talk about!

Romans 12:10 (Message Bible)
Be good friends who love deeply; practice playing second fiddle.

Philip. 2:3 (Message Bible)
Don't push your way to the front; don't sweet-talk your way to the top. Put yourself aside, and help others get ahead.

1 Peter 2:17 (Message Bible)
Treat everyone you meet with dignity. Love your spiritual family. Revere God. Respect the government.
