Look at all the spiritual tie-ins in the following promotional release and photos from Sony Pictures:

STUDIO PR:Three thrill-seeking adventurers, best friends and world-class surfers who are committed to each other and to following their instincts as they follow the waves, set out on a journey that will take them to the depths of the ocean and the depths of their souls. A roller coaster action tour of the globe's most exotic and dangerous surf spots, In God's Hands chronicles the path of these wanderers as they search for waves, beauty, excitement and the essence of life above and below the surface. Along the way, they will form the kind of bond that only those who have faced joy, death and delirium together can.

The goal of Mickey (Matt George), Shane (Shane Dorian), and Keoni (Matty Liu) is to be one with the sea, to participate in a graceful and powerful mating ritual with nature. They travel by tramp steamer to Madagascar, Mexico, Bali and Hawaii to dance on waves that have never been ridden just to experience the sheer ecstasy of conquering them. As they cruise the currents of the world's biggest waves, living by their wits and in constant motion, they come face to face with locations like Back Door, Honolua Bay, and Jaws that inspire awe among surf devotees. Shane, Mickey, and Keoni
have a reverence for the indigenous cultures they inhabit on their journey, and they are treated by the natives like monks on a spiritual path.

The story opens with the three travelers ensconced amid camels and tribal dancers on a beach in the South Seas. Mickey, flaunting his machismo, gets in trouble with a local citizen over a misunderstanding involving the man's beautiful daughter and lands himself in jail. When Mickey makes a break for it, a chase involving a jeep, a seaplane, and several speedboats ensues. Rumors of bigger waves on the horizon beckon the threesome incessantly, and they continue their journey to Bali and on to Hawaii. All the while, the movie continues to tell the real story behind all of this action and adventure-the relationship these characters have with nature and the depth of insight it gives them to their inner selves. In Hawaii, Mickey, Shane, and Keoni confront Judgment Day in the form of a 50-foot outer reef storm surf. The 35 mph waves are so spectacular that, in order to ride them, a surfer must be towed into them by a jet ski traveling faster than 30 knots. When Mickey dies attempting to surf one of these monster waves in Hawaii, Shane begins a pilgrimage across the Pacific Ocean in order to surf the same wave in Mexico that killed his friend. What he knows now is that when you try to surf a 40-foot wave, you put yourself In God's Hands.

3 is the number of the TRINITY.
Three is always the right number for a spiritual journey.
A spiritual meeting of the minds. Just like church!
Does this look like a monk and spiritual guru convention, or what?

After seeing this movie over, and over, and over, i cant help but think why people are so into what they love most. And like our lil friend from england, I cant surf much either, and i never take for granted any day i am near the ocean. as faith would have it I was going to go to school in hawaii this fall, but due to lack of funds i couldnt make it out there. anyways, keep your ambitions true, and never forget what you believe in! Life is a beautiful thing, and to be taken by nature, it makes me want to live it more everyday.

IN TOUCH WITH THE OCEAN

You can post this comment, but not the email please. Thanks! Hey! I loved this movie. I am not a surfer and have never really liked surfing films. But, this is the first one that really caught my attention and made me think about the sport and the men that surf for a living. By the way, the only problem I had is that they did not show any women surfing, I mean even Annette F. surfed with Frankie! Anyway, there is nothing more sexier than seeing someone who needs to work hand in hand with nature in order to make a sport work. You can't get anymore in touch with the earth, in my opinion, than by being in touch with the ocean. Surfers definately have my respect. BTW, where is Matt George and the gang now? Patrick is definately a cutie.

PORTRAYS THE AVERAGE SURFERS LIFE
May 16, 1999.
This movie is the bomb! I'm a pro surfer myself right now and this is a movie that shows you how the average pro surfers life is. As you can see in this movie, a pro surfers life can be and get pretty damn crazy! And believe me, it can from what I've experienced over the past year!

SHOWS WHAT IT TAKES TO BE GREAT
May 14, 1999.
I really enjoyed the movie. It showed a different side of surfing and surfers than the usual stereotypical movies that portray surfers as lazy and unintelligent. It shows the spiritual aspect as well as the love and determination it takes to become great.
