THE
6TH DAY.
Here is a movie that explores the idea of humans taking on the role
of God. Futuristic action about a man who meets a clone of himself
and stumbles into a grand conspiracy about clones taking over the
world. Since the first cloned man
is named Adam, wanna guess where the name of the movie comes from?

| Arnold
Schwarzenegger's last film was the End
Of Days, another film with a Biblical theme. In fact, his
Batman film before that had lots of Garden of Eden imagery in
it. |
|
|
|
Robert
Duvall is no stranger to religious themed films either. Above
his his terrific Apostle which was followed by Deep
Impact.

You
can be replaced, you know!
Cloning is life!
|
SYNOPSIS:
Director Roger Spottiswoode (Tomorrow Never Dies, Noriega) creates
a world of the very near future in which cattle, fish and even the
family pet can be cloned. But cloning humans is illegal-that is until
family man Adam Gibson (Arnold Schwarzenegger) comes home from work
one day to find a clone has replaced him.
Taken from his family and plunged into a sinister world he doesn't
understand, Gibson must not only save himself from the assassins who
must now destroy him to protect their secret, but uncover who and
what is behind the horrible things happening to him. THE 6TH DAY is
the story of Gibson's struggle to reclaim his life and his family. |

Robert
Duvall (The Apostle) stars as Dr. Gordon Weir, a clone-designing
scientist. When helicopter pilot Adam Gibson (Schwarzenegger) returns
home to his wife, Natalie (Crewson), he discovers that he has been
replaced by another man --himself! Well by a clone of himself designed
Weir. To
add to the problems, a team of assassins (Rooker, Wynter) are out
to eliminate the original Adam. But which is Adam and which is the
clone? Because Adam knows about Weir's illegal cloning activity,
the villain (Tony Goldwyn) wants Adam dead.
Here
is a movie that explores the idea of Humans taking on the role of
God. The world in which we live is full of heartbreak (as in, your
beloved pet kitty cat dies). But, this is the way God has created
it -we learn and grow from such experiences. So,
if Humans could re-create the world free of heartbreak would we?
I think we would. And in fact, we are, to some extent, moving in
that general direction already. However, a truly perfect world,
as the story suggests, requires the elimination of the present flawed
humanity.
This
film is about the new creation. God created humanity on the 6th
epoch/day of creation (hence, the name of the film). Something happened
to the perfection of creation (the Fall of "Adam and Eve")
and humanity has been trying to fix it ever since.
The
old Adam/self must die. The New Adam/self must take over. This is
a profound spiritual truth. The question is who should be in charge
of defining the New Adam/Humanity? Humans or God? This film is loaded
with all kinds of good discussion elements.

The
Garden of Eden is a popular theme in recent films.
There have a surprising number of films recently that have
used the book of Genesis as a source for story elements. Movies
that reflect the Garden of Eden story include: Pi, Mighty
Joe Young, Six Days Seven Nights, Return to Paradise, Insurrection:
Star Trek, Pleasantville, The Truman Show, Anaconda and of
course, Blast From the Past.
|
|
Pleasantville
abounds in Garden of Eden images.
|
|
Mighty
Joe Young is the guardian of Paradise.
|
|
|
Serpent
like beings seek to take over a Paradise planet in Star Trek:
Insurrection.
|
|
Seaheaven
in The Truman Show is referred to as Paradise.
|
|
|
In
Anaconda there is a big snake in Paradise.
|
|
Six
Days Seven Nights is about crash landing into Paradise.
|
|
|
The
Thin Red Line is about Hell invading Paradise.
|
|
Return
to Paradise reveals temptation and judgment to be still alive
and well in Paradise.
|
|
| |
Pi,
Faith in Chaos is a powerful film. It ties the Tree of Knowledge
and the Garden of Eden to the cosmos.

FAITH
AND SCIENCE
Subject: Great take on the relationship between
faith and science
Date: Sun, 10 Dec 2000
From: Alex
Villain:
"Do you think science is inherently evil?"
Adam: "I don't think science is inherently evil; I think you're
inherently evil!"
Science
and faith can work together, but man's sinful nature can ultimately
destroy the good that science can bring.
