27 DressesRecommendation: Rent/Queue it (fair warning: it is a touching tale, in a somewhat crude package)

This movie reminds me of the saying, “Always a bridesmaid, never a bride.” This movie also reminds me of the saying we always hear right before the plane takes off,: “If you are sitting next to someone that needs assistance with their oxygen mask, please make sure yours is secure first.”

It is a touching tale about a woman who decided during childhood that she would help everyone she knew have that perfect wedding day. The movie portrays her being faithful to that promise, so faithful that she doesn’t take care of herself. She ends up living in a fantasy world, where she believes her boss is the perfect one for her and she lives vicariously through articles from the bridal section of the newspaper.

Although it is wrapped in a crude package (am I old fashioned to think it’s ugly for women to cuss like sailors?) the story of the woman with 27 bridesmaid dresses (when she’d really rather have 1 bridal gown) is worth a look. It may help us realize that we all need our oxygen mask (Jesus) before we can go out and save the world… it reminded me.

Special Features
Nothing too stunning here, but it is a good supplement to the movie.

  • The Wedding Party Featurette
  • You’ll Never Wear It Again Featurette (if you’ve ever been a bridesmaid, or are married to one, this is a great featurette)
  • Jane’s World Featurette
  • The Running of the Brides Featurette
  • Deleted Scenes

Patrick was born in Hollywood...literally! Hollywood Community Hospital in 1970. I met Jesus and my wife, Linda, in 1989. Two relationships that I treasure to this day. We have two sons, Joshua and Jason, and a little dog named Sophie. We love Jesus together, enjoy living on the Central Coast of California and hanging with our boys and dog at the beach or a park. As far as Hollywood Jesus it's a privilege to write with real writers...since I'm not. I hope you like my reviews, which are more commentary on everything that MovesMe. I always assume you've seen the movie or TV show that I'm commenting on...so be fair warned; I'm a spoiler.
